Screenname

The screenname is the username of an AOL user. The screenname is a part of the e-mail address, but not the e-mail address. Screennames can be between three and sixteen characters long and may not contain words that violate AOL Terms of Service.

What is a Screenname?

ChattingChuck@aol.com

In the example above, ChattingChuck is the screenname. A screen name is not case or space sensitive; however, when sending e-mail you must remove all spaces.

ScreenName Restrictions

AOL has always had it's fair share of user-generated problems, especially in screennames. Many pejoratives, slang and vulgar online aliases have been used by their users. Often in perverse ways, users interact on the Internet under a different personality.

AOL restricts (will not allow) the following phrases in a screen name:

  • Rape
  • Fuck
  • Shit
  • HOST
  • Guide
  • AOL
  • Support
  • Customer

There are likely many more, but those are the basics. AOL restricts names for business reasons as well as security/anti-phishing reasons since AOL users are more prone to security attack than non-AOL users.
